The Waffle House!

A place that only serves waffles? What a very strange but delicious concept. Well that's exactly right as I found out last Saturday on a trip to Norwich. There was a mix of various different sweet and savoury waffles all of which are different from each other. They come in two sizes, small and large, and although it might seem like you should go for the large the small is actually pretty filling, especially if you want a pudding as well. So here's what I went for!

For my main I went for the waffle with strips of beef, mashed potato and a pink peppercorn sauce. The waffle acted as a sort of yorkshire pudding type thing and it was very tasty. The beef was tender and soft and the sauce was really tasty and there was lots of it which is what I really liked. The only problem I found was the mashed potato. I'm not the biggest potato fan and even though I didn't eat the potato to me everything still had a bit of a potato flavour. It might just have been me but it meant that I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. Still it was really interesting and I did rather enjoy it!

Dessert was amazing! I went for the pecan nut waffle with butterscotch sauce and whipped cream. It was SO tasty that thinking about it now is making me want to hop on a train back to Norwich and have another one. The waffle was crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, the sauce was sticky and delicious and the cream just added a little extra something that brought the whole thing together. The pecans were tasty and I loved it. There's not much more I can say about it but it has to be one of my all time flavour combinations!

Rub!

You'd think I'd have realised by now not to write these posts on an empty stomach but alas, here we are! Another Nottingham restaurant today and it's something that's a little bit different to your 'typical' restaurant. I'd describe this place as kind of quirky, rocky and just down right cool! The menu was very extensive and kind of complicated to work it out but once you get your head round it, it is kind of straight forward. The food came in 'funky' dishes and on weird trays and I love how different it was. I really want to go back and try out some of the other dishes!

I went for chicken and waffles with fries. I wanted to go for something that I probably couldn't have anywhere else, and come on who doesn't want to combine fried chicken and sweet sweet waffles! It sounds insane! I didn't really know what to expect other than the fact it was going to be an extreme mix of sweet and savoury and I didn't know whether I was going to like it or not (spoiler alert, I did). I really enjoyed this meal! The chicken was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle and it wasn't greasy in the slightest, which is usually the case when it comes to fried chicken. There were three waffles, all of which were soft and like your standard breakfast waffle. There were two sauces, maple syrup and a white barbecue sauce. The maple syrup was standard and went well with both the waffles and the chicken as it gave the chicken a nice and sticky outside. The white barbecue sauce was my ideal barbecue sauce as I'm not big on a barbecue flavour and this sauce just had a little hint. This little hint was also nice to go with both of the elements of the meal and sort of tied everything together. Last but not least the fries were 'standard fries' but to me they also had a taste of fish and chip shop chips so if you know how they're cooked then I think they were cooked like that. Delicious and I'd definitely it again in a heartbeat!

Mallorca Majorca

Day numero seveno! The Mallorca (or Majorca, I don't know what the 'correct' spelling is) port was one of the most stunning views out of all of the destinations. It was like a little bay with some typical spanish buildings on the shore and the most beautiful historical church as you look on the horizon. One problem with this stunning panoramic view of the city of Palma de Mallorca is that we could see this amazing church, and how far away it was from the boat, and how far we were going to have to walk to get to it. Yes, walk...fun times.

I'm not huge on exercise, in fact I hate it very much, so walking to what seemed to be 20 miles around a bay was not my idea of holiday fun but hey ho! What made it worse was it was THE HOTTEST DAY EVER.....EVER! When it came down to it the walk went past the harbour and was very scenic, it was just the heat that made it harder. When we got to the cathedral it was totally worth the walk, it was stunning. The detail in the architecture was gorgeous and I liked how even the surrounding lake and trees all complemented and made it a lovely area to have a wander.

When we docked in Mallorca it was a Sunday and I'd love to go back another day as pretty much everything was closed which was a bummer. The buildings were very historic, quite old and a terracotta colour which I really liked as they were different from the other types of architecture in the other ports. We had a drink in two different bars, as although not many shops were open most of the bars were, and they were in cute little backstreets in the shade and had a nice relaxing atmosphere. In fact I think the atmosphere of the whole place was laid back. We didn't do a whole lot in Palma so I'd like to do a little more if I went back but I had a really nice visit. (Sorry about the lack of variety in the pictures, oopsie!)
