Chiquito's! (Take Three)

Another trip to Chiquito's! There's nothing like a friend's birthday meal to see the first term out with a bang. So without further ado let's jump straight into it!

I wanted to go for something a little bit different so I chose a barbecue chicken wrap with chips, salad and coleslaw. The chicken was cooked to perfection and had a nice crispy coating on the outside. The problem I found with it was that the barbecue flavour was a little too over powering. I'm not the biggest barbecue fan but I thought that it might just have a hint of the flavour. Some of the chips were nice but most of them tasted like rock hard, slightly off potato and I was not a fan. I think that I just got a bad batch. I LOVED the coleslaw, creamy and crunchy I could not get enough. The portion size was perfect and just enough to fill me up.

For dessert I had the chilli chocolate fondant which I had last time so if you want to hear my thoughts on that then you can read it here.

Round Up #9: Oxford Trip!

This week has been a little boring so I'm going to dedicate this entire post to my Oxford Trip that I took last weekend. From Friday to Monday, this mini holiday reunited me with my university pals after what seemed like a long few months. Here are some of my highlights from the trip and what things I think you absolutely must do if you visit Oxford (coming from someone that's only been twice and for a few days so I wouldn't take it as gospel!).

Visiting the sights
If I ever visit Oxford again on a little mini break I'm definitely going to go on one of the open top buses. I think it would be the best way to see all of the beautiful buildings that the city has to offer. We wandered around some pretty streets whilst we were there and there is some gorgeous scenery so I'd really like to see it all if I could. One day I also want to go on an 'Endeavour tour' (they don't exist but hey ho) to see the filming locations they used in one of my favourite ever programmes, Endeavour.

Punting
Yes yes yes! This is definitely something that I highly recommend doing if you visit the city. It's basically like a gondola but instead of an oar type thing, it's a stick which you dig into the ground to steer and push yourself along. You can DIY it or get someone to do it for you but because we are a group of girls who like to live life on the edge (ha!) we did it ourselves. Not to toot my own horn but I was pretty damn good at it. It was quite hard at first but once you got the hang of steering it got a little easier.

Party Time
Quick mention to the night out we went on. Really good! We went to Bridge and it was a good night out. The problem is that I think that my clubbing days are over. The past two nights out I've had have resulted in me prematurely falling asleep in the club. One thing that this club did though was let me sleep, whereas if you ever go to Windsor they will try and kick you out, believe me! Oxford loves a snoozer!

How To: Makeup On The Go

Tomorrow I'm going to be hopping on a train and heading down to Oxford to see my uni pals and I am super excited I literally cannot wait! It seems like it's been forever since I saw them last so there'll be lots to catch up on. Anyway, my train journey is around three and a half hours so to make sure I look fresh when I step off the train I'm going to be taking a little touch up bag with me. I never normally redo my face after a journey but then I end up looking like a sweaty mess so this time I'm going to take a little pack so that I look presentable.

The first thing that I'm going to take is my mini Benefit Pore-fessional powder that I got in a Benefit set that I recently picked up in Sephora (read about what else I got at Sephora here). It comes with the handy little brush and is the perfect size to just shove in my bag. I've not given it a proper test so I'm not sure how the actual product performs but if I like it I'll keep you posted. Next up is my Rimmel Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Jet Black. No doubt it will have worn off by the time my journey ends so it's just easy to take it and top it up in my waterline. The wear time is pretty good but after four hours it won't be in the waterline anymore. A new addition to my life is the Clinique Colour Pop Lipstick in Melon Pop (I also got Poppy Pop and a review will be coming soon) and I am loving it so far. This might not be the lipstick I'm wearing (although it's highly likely it will be) but whatever lip product I'm wearing on the day will go in the bag so that I can reapply it. These Sephora Cool Mint blotting papers are my life saver. My skin can get quite oily pretty easily so a quick dab with one of these bad boys really helps me out. I also like the fact that it's cooling from the mint and smells great.

La Tasca!

O. M. G. This has to be one of THE best meals out I have ever had (be prepared for more bold statements). As you will know if you read my blog last week it was my birthday and to celebrate I invited a group of my favourite people out to La Tasca for tapas. I've never been there before and I love that kind of food so it seemed like the obvious choice. I had some vouchers to use as well which we were extremely grateful in the end because it's not a cheap meal, but this is reflected in the quality. To make things easier, and to make sure that everyone got the kind of thing that they wanted, we split into groups of 2/3 and ordered 3 meals each, but different so that we ended up having six between two. My pairing chose two portions of Patatas Bravas, which are roast potatoes in a tomato sauce and it came with alioli on top which is a tasty garlic mayonnaise. These were insanely good! Tasty and soft but with a little crisp from the skin. We probably could have shared one of these as I didn't finish mine but they were so good. We ordered the standard calamari which were crispy from the batter but to my delight the squid was perfectly cooked, soft and tender rather than tough and chewy. Big fan. The chorizo was a big favourite of the table and there's no surprise why. It wasn't chewy in the slightest and was full of flavour. The oil it was cooked in was also super tasty. Albondigas was next which were meatballs in a tomato sauce. Loved these! The sauce had a slight heat to it and the meatballs were soft and melted in the mouth. My favourite of the whole lot were the chicken croquets which were a creamy chicken sauce in little breadcrumbed balls. Insane! I can't really explain how good these were but trust me, they were. We also had garlic bread which was also INSANE! I seriously want to go back here so much that writing this is making me sad because I know that whatever I eat for tea tonight won't be as good as the food there.

Favourite Friday: First Term

It seems like two minutes since I entered the realm of second year and now it's time to pack up my festive woolies and head back up north for a few weeks. So I thought that now would be a good time to reflect one the first term (sheds tear) with some of my favourite selfies, group shots, etc. Here's to term 2!

The first night

The night of the lounge crew

The night where it rained...a lot

The night of new places
The night of the house

The night of halloween

The night of CBJ

The night of early pre drinks

The night of early entry

The night of memories...

The night of togetherness!
