January Favourites 2016

I'm so glad to be coming to the end of January. For some reason it always seems to be an awful month where everything goes wrong and mood is at an all time low. But now is not the time to discuss sadness as it's favourites time where we discuss all the things I've been loving this month!

Skincare

My skin has been having a very rough month. I don't know whether it's been the weather, the stress of third year or the change in water (seriously, my face hates it when I move from home to uni and wash my face in different water, who knew?!). I couldn't work out if my skin was really oily or severely dehydrated so I tried stripping the oil and adding more moisture to try and work out what was going on. One night I smothered my face in the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask and when I woke up it was as if my skin was singing from the highest of heavens. It was plump, not oily and just looked so much better and clearer. It's a really thick moisturiser/mask that you apply generously to give your skin a moisture boost. I think that my skin might be turning from oily to dry so I need to work out maybe a modified skincare routine for that, any recommendations for moisture boosting products would be much appreciated!

Makeup

I never jumped onto the highlighting concealer band wagon but here we are, bringing one in as one of my favourites. This is the L'Oreal True Match Highlighting Concealer. I bought this because I was in desperate need of a concealer and they didn't have my shade in the normal true match concealer so I just went for this one instead. What I do is apply my Maybelline Under Eye Concealer first and then go in with this one and it makes the world of different. It makes my face look brighter and this concealer combo is great on dark circles, I'm in love! Speaking of love, the lipstick above is the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Sexy Sienna. This lipstick is amazing. It goes on smoothly, lasts for a really long time and is a stunning colour. It's quite nude but on the lips it does pop and is quite peachy as well. I could go on about this product forever but the formula is so amazing I need to expand my collection of these soon!

Other

The unicorn slipper you see above represents my love for everything slipper related. Before October the only slippers I owned were ones I had bought for Christmas years ago that were hiding in a wardrobe back at home. Now I own three pairs, which are all at uni with me, and that all serve a different purpose. I have a unicorn pair, and Olaf, pair and a Thumper pair. I love looking down at my feet and seeing a cute furry face looking back up at me. Things like that really brightened my dark January days!

Favourite Friday: Disney

This week I found out probably the world's most exciting news: I'm going to Florida. Insane. I went when I was about six or seven and my memories, which are few and far between, of it are of a magical place where dreams come true (cheesy but true). I cannot explain how excited I am to wear a ton of merchandise, sing at the top of my lungs and push small children out of the way to get on the rides. So, if you're in the Orlando area sometime between July and August and see a 20 girl wearing Mickey Mouse ears crying because of the cuteness...it's me...nice to meet you.

John Lewis Tears

We're back at this time of year again where the buzz of Christmas is in the air and everything in the shops are either red, silver or gold. Hooray! But there is also one thing that happens at this time of the year that I don't look forward to...the John Lewis advert. It's not that I don't like them, once I get into it I could be one of the people to watch it at least once a day, it's just the initial watch. I don't think that I'm that much of an emotional person except when it comes to animals or anything remotely cute looking. It's a huge weakness and you can probably tell where I'm going with this.

The first time that I remember thinking 'so this is the famous John Lewis advert' was the year before last when it was the one with the snowmen. So cute but I never properly saw the whole version, I only ever saw the cut down version that they show between programmes on the telly. However when I did watch it I thought that it was a bit sad for a Christmas advert and the snow drama was just a bit much, but no tears were shed.

It was 2013 that got to me. I was sat in the kitchen with my flatmates doing work (I don't know why we were doing work so intensely on a Saturday in November but just roll with it) and one of my other flatmates and her mum came in. I don't know how it came up but we started talking about the new John Lewis advert and we decided to watch it there and then on my laptop because none of us had seen it. From the get go I thought 'oh no, it's all too much'. The sad slow music and the animated woodland creatures were a recipe for disaster. As we got further into the advert when, SPOILER ALERT, the bear leaves the party to go and hibernate and his rabbit friend looked sad I could feel the tears building up in my eyes. As soon as that bear came over the hill and it showed the joy in the rabbits face I couldn't take it anymore. I wept. Not just a few tears, it was a full on sob. In front of everyone, including an actual adult. Even now though, running the advert in my mind gets me a little bit emotional.

This year wasn't as bad but I didn't make the fatal mistake of watching it with company. As I sat on my bed watching trying not to cry I was actually enjoying the penguins antics. Cute! It was when I reached the end that I cracked. The cuteness of penguin love mixed with imaginary toy penguin reality was too much. I was gone.

If you haven't watched this years advert yet I would definitely recommend it and if you have a bit of an emotional breakdown don't worry, I won't judge.

What I got for my birthday!

I'm just going to quickly move on from the fact that I completely failed at the photo challenge so yeaa...

Last week it was my birthday! Woo 19, what a great..age? Anyway, I got soooooo many AMAZING presents!! I'm so lucky for everything that I got and they are all things that I love!

These are all my beautiful presents! Eeeeeek it's so exciting! Here's a run down on what I received:

• A heart shaped blackboard
• A snuggly bear called Grant
• 12 Millies cookies (12. 12!)
• A bracelet, a soap, an owl keyring and a soft green heart
• Champneys washy smellys (mmm...)
• War horse DVD
• A wreck the journal
• 4 nail varnishes
• Derren Brown tickets!

I painted my nails this colour last night and it's so pretty and really shiny. Fingers crossed it doesn't chip for a while because I really can't be bothered to repaint them!

I think that this many be my favourite present. Derren. Brown. Tickets. I cannot even explain how excited I am right now and how much I'm trying to hold in my excitement. I still haven't decided if I would watch to catch the thing he throws and go up on stage but I've got plenty of time to decide.





So another birthday over I'd like to say thank you for all of my presents! Now time to spend the birthday cash!
