George's! (Take Three)

Another trip to Nottingham means another trip to George's to introduce more family members to its foodie goodness. And the exciting news was that they'd changed the menu slightly so I could try something completely different. I even went for a different pudding (I know, no doughnuts!).

For my main I went for the beef bourguignon pie with roasted shallots and chips. It was delicious! The top of the pie looks a bit weird because of the shallots but they were very tasty and sweet. The pie filling was really flavourful and full of sauce. There was so much meat which was great for the size of the pie and the price and the shortcrust pastry was so delicious and there was just enough of it. The chips, as always were fluffy and crispy and perfect and the portion size of the whole meal was perfect. I seriously don't think that I'd be able to finish a full portion though as I've always had a lunch portion.

This very weird and wonderful creation was a nutella and banana sandwich and I don't know how I feel about it. It was basically nutella and banana, in bread and then deep fried. When I got it I was definitely surprised, I didn't really know what it would be but I didn't think deep fried bread would be part of the equation. The filling was very tasty and I could have that by the bucket load but I don't think that the bread was really my thing. The blue banana ice cream was really the star of the show. It was just a banana flavour but it was nice and cooling and I think that the next time I go I'll just have that with heaps of cream on!

Harvester!

For a little pre exam week treat, once again me and 'the crew' took a food outing, oh how we love food. The plan was to go to The Slug and Lettuce but bad timing meant that it was having a refurb so off to the nearby Harvester it was, and was it a good choice! On a lunchtime they have a £9.99 menu where you get a main meal, refillable soft drink, salad and ice cream for just, you guessed it, £9.99. The menu wasn't too extensive but for a first time visit there were the essentials to choose from, burgers (chicken and beef), ribs and chicken. I went for the chicken burger as I fancied something 'hefty' and off to the salad bar we went. I'm more of a 'croutons and bacon bits' kind of girl so I didn't explore the lengths and depths of what they had to offer but by the looks of everyone else bowls there was a lot to choose from. When the burger came I was more than ready to dig in and I wasn't disappointed. It was nice and moist, tasty and just the right size. The chips were good too, to say I'm not the biggest fan. I ordered it to come with peppercorn sauce, as you choose which sauce you want with whatever meal, and that was so good I could just eat a pot of that on it's own. Overall the main was a huge success.

For dessert you can have a selected option of ice cream included in the deal price or for an extra £1 you can have any of the other sundaes on the menu. I went for the Rocky Horror, ice cream with warm brownie, right up my street. Covered in cream and chocolate bits I was all over this. The only problem was that because the ice cream was on top of the brownie it wasn't warm but it was still really tasty. I'd definitely recommend going and getting the meal as it's just too cheap to miss!

Fat Cats! (take two)

Change in the schedule!
I just couldn't stay away for longer than a couple of weeks before going back to the restaurant where dreams are made, well that's slightly over dramatic. I thought that although I really liked what I had last time I went, to have more to talk about in this post it would make sense to try something new!

For my main I had the Fat Cat Burger with curly fries. The burger was a standard beef burger with a cheese, bacon, onion and mushroom sauce on the top. I really liked this dish but I don't think it was as good as the pork I had last time. The burger itself was tasty but it was a touch on the dry side, however paired with the sauce and the sweet bun moistened it up. I felt that the burger need more sauce on it though because there was only a little bit on top of the burger inside the bun. Overall it's not my favourite dish in the world but it was quite nice and the flavours were very good.

As you can see from the picture I couldn't part with my amazing friend mr cheesecake. This time the flavour was the same but the berries that were on top last time were actually inside the cheesecake. It made a nice change but I preferred the plain cheesecake because I'm not the biggest fan of berries like that inside things (I know, bit weird). It was still as good as ever!
