Fat Cats! (Take Four)

I know, we're here again but can you blame me with such a good student discount?! This visit to the beloved Fat Cats was slightly different as this time I had a starter! I know right, what a turn around for the books. So without further ado let's jump in.

Because we were feeling adventurous on this visit we decided to sample one of their sharing starters and we went for the Mediterranean platter. I'm so glad that we did because this ended up being the star of the meal! It came with an olive salad, deep fried aubergines, goats cheese bruschetta, flatbreads, hummus, falafels and tzatziki. Everything was delicious, except maybe the salad but I'm not a salad person, and also the bruschetta because I don't like goats cheese. The tzatziki was cleansing and tasty and the hummus was out of this world! Everything went well with everything, like the aubergines tasted good with the hummus, etc. I've never had a falafel before and I really enjoyed them. They reminded me of onion bargiis as they had a curry as a flavour. My favourite thing out of everything was the hummus, it was creamy, tasty and the best I've ever had.

This cheesecake...is something else. It has to be the creamiest cheesecake I've ever had! It was white chocolate and raspberry flavour, although the raspberry flavour wasn't really prominent, which is one of my favourite flavour combinations when it comes to cheesecake. The cream that it came with was squirt cream from a can which didn't really add much and when I've had cheesecake here before, it came with pouring cream which was much better. The piece was huge but it was so delicious that I just want to eat it over and over again!

Theatre Meal!

Last week I went home on a short little two day trip because me and my family were going to see Barnum at the Alhambra theatre in Bradford! If you don't know what Barnum is it's a show about a circus, I'm not very good at describing things but trust me it was really good! Before we went to see the show we visited 1914, the restaurant in the theatre, and it was amazing! The food was so good I can't even describe how good, but I'll try.

For starter I had smoked salmon mousse which was really nice. The top was actual smoked salmon and the underneath was a mixture of smoked salmon, mustard and creme freshe. I wish that I had kept some bread back because it would have been nice with some bread but it was still good mixed with the rocket underneath. There was just the right amount and it nicely set me up for my main meal.

For my main meal I had pork with red cabbage, cider mash and a cheeky side of cauliflower cheese. The pork was beautiful, it was soft and melted in the mouth underneath but the top was crispy and tasty, the perfect combination. The mashed potato was buttery and smooth and went really well with the sweet cabbage which was crunchy and tasty. The cauliflower cheese was amazing! Possibly one of the best I've ever had, and I do like my cauliflower cheese. This is up there with one of the best meals I've ever had, bold statements.

Dessert was treacle tart. I think when it comes down it could be one of my favourite desserts and this is the best treacle tart I've ever had. It came with clotted cream, which I am in love with, and had a really nice ginger flavour and was buttery and sweet and amazing! The pastry was thin and crispy and the filling was aaaahhhh. That's all I have to say.

I'm really hoping that something exciting comes back to the theatre so that we have an excuse to go again, fingers crossed!

I had a sad little feeling that I wouldn't have a place to 'review' this week as I didn't think I was going out to eat but I do love a bit of spontaneity! Me and my friends decided to take a little trip to have a nice meal and because Nottingham is full of restaurants we had a lot of choice. We went to Peachy Keens because sometimes you just want to go somewhere where you can just eat all of the foods! Earlier this year we all went to Red Hot buffet which I have to say really disappointed me. I thought that the food wasn't anything special and there was a bit too much choice if that makes sense.

This time we didn't make the mistake of buying soft drinks as they were so expensive last time but I suppose they have to do that to make up for the fact that the food is so cheap! With student discount it came to just under a tenner which is so amazing! Cannot go wrong!

It's safe to say I sampled pretty much everything that they had to offer, from onion barjis to sushi it was all really good. My favourite had to be the poppadoms because they had a really nice flavour and weren't at all greasy. The desserts were also really good and my favourite was the chocolate and walnut brownie, it was perfection. The food was so much better than Red Hot and at a much better price. If I had one complaint it would be that the main dishes, like beef in a sauce, were a little dry. I will definitely be returning in the near future!
